YOUTH EMPOWERMENT, THINK & DO TANK AND RESEARCH

MOVABLE^LAB is not only about events. We strongly believe that it is important to continuously support young potentials to impact transformations in society. Therefor, we provide YOUTH EMPOWERMENT activities to help them develop new skills, such as on- and offline coaching, seminars and talks. MOVABLE^LAB is also a THINK & DO TANK, in which all who are involved in MOVABLE^LAB work on wicked issues, provided to us by governments or companies. And, last but not least, all outcomes of the MOVABLE^LAB programs will be clarified in longitudinal, worldwide RESEARCH activities.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

We are aiming at young leaders and gifted and talented young people as well as young professionals. Millennials, or the Millennial Generation, also known as Generation Y, are the demographic cohort following Generation X. Researchers use beginning birth years from the early 1980s to the early 2000s. Millennials have distinctly different behaviors, values and attitudes from previous generations as a response to the technological and economic implications of the Internet.

Economic prospects for the Millennials have worsened due to the late-2000s recession. Several governments have instituted major youth employment schemes out of fear of social unrest due to the dramatically increased rates of youth unemployment. In Europe, youth unemployment levels were very high (27% in Spain, 35% in the Baltic states, 19.1% in Britain and more than 20% in many more). In 2009, leading commentators began to worry about the long term social and economic effects of the unemployment. Unemployment levels in other areas of the world were also high, with the youth unemployment rate in the U.S. reaching a record level (19.1%, July 2010) since the statistic started being gathered in 1948. Underemployment is also a major factor.

These figures not only point out the dramatic situation for this generation as far as employment is concerned, but also that our society faces the threat of missing a significant part of a whole generation and their influence on the development of society and organizations. and this in a transitional era in which we depend more than ever on new and authentic insights and contributions. The sought after leaders of tomorrow at least do have the chance to be part of the future and should not be excluded.

The one thing we can do to increase the potential influence and participation of talented millennials is to empower the leaders-to-be in order to let them qualify themselves. MOVABLE^LAB does so by offering Lead Labs, Nature retreats and a Think and Do Thank, but also provides more customized activities, like seminars, talks, coaching and mentoring.

RESEARCH

RESEARCH

The outcomes of the MOVABLE^LAB activities in terms of solutions, scenarios, useful insights or directions of action will be handed over to the organizations or governments that brought in their problems. All together this means that there is a multiple level outcome. In order to clarify  the results and effects of the Movable^Lab program it is very important to conduct a longitudinal study. This means there has to be a comparison between control groups and groups that follow the program. This study has to be conducted on an international, worldwide scale to be able to control for and differ  between cultural effects. Also there is need to perform this research longitudinally because the effects are expected to occur over the years to come.

A research program on this scale calls for academic involvement and participation of multiple universities around the world. Publications about the results may serve more than one cause. First there is the need to learn and improve, beside this the results can fuel the international dialogue on new leadership, its conditions, implications for policy development, and so forth.

The different interim reports finally will result in an overall publication; a book on insights and experiences on organizing new leadership on a global scale. Tied to this research activities there will be a New Leadership exchange program. And at the same time this exchange program will be monitored.  On a local or regional scale Social Business Platforms will be working on different issues with stakeholders in order to realize improvement of the quality of people‚Äôs lives  and of our planet. Possibly an internet based  leadership broadcasting channel may be one of the outcomes and preferred tools to constantly realize next levels.
